Week of March 22nd:

Progress Reports were sent home on Friday, March 19th.  Please return the signed folder to school as soon as possible. 

There is no school for students on Friday because of conferences.  Conferences will take place on Friday, March 26th, let me know if you plan to attend. 

 Math:  Students have a Math Test on Monday, March 22nd.  The test will focus on all topics in Unit 6.  Our next unit will be Unit 7, Data Analysis.  If you own a Twister game and wouldn't mind lending the class the spinner  for a week or two we would greatly appreciate it.

March 15th through March 19th:

On Monday morning, Saskatchewan Roughrider Weston Dressler will be here to speak with the Grade 5 to 8 students about bullying issues and how to stop it.

 Math:  Students will continue to work on Unit 6, Equations.  We will most likely cover topics 6.4 through 6.6 this week.

Here are some of the things going on in Room 116:

Students took home their folders this week and almost all were returned on time!!  Thank you for your help.

Math:  Students began their unit on Equations.  The unit will focus on strategies to solve for unknown variables.  Students are asked to complete the handout 6.1 for Monday, it will be marked.  We will continue to work on this unit throughout the week with various assignments.

March 1st through 5th

Math:  Students have completed their Unit 5 exam and need to complete their unit problem on Pg. 217 by Monday, March 1st.  Our next unit of study will be Unit 6, Equations.

Writing:  Olympic Journals are due on Monday, March 1st.  Students turned in their cyber-communication essays on Thursday.  We continue to work on adding details to our writing by participating in mini-lessons and assignments.

Reading:  Students worked through a couple of Olympic stories this week.  We will begin a new focus in reading this week.

Week of February 22nd:

Unit 5 Math Test Wednesday, Feb. 24th!

We will begin our unit review on Friday the 19th. Students need to complete pg. 213 #1 to 9 by Monday and the remainder of the unit review by Tuesday. The test will be on Wednesday and students were all given the main concepts they must know to be successful on the test. To wrap up this unit students will work through the unit problem on pg. 217 which will be due on Monday, March 1st.

Here are some of the things going on in Room 116:

Math:  We are working through Unit 5.  Students were asked to complete a 5.5 Handout for Tuesday, Feb. 16th, most students completed the assignment during class time.

Reading/Writing:  Students have been asked to complete their Olympic Journals over the long weekend.  Each day has a journal prompt that students respond to.  Students should complete the first three journal entries and track the medal count up until Tuesday.  

Week of February 5th through February 10th

Math:  Students will continue to work through the concepts in Unit 5.  Students should have the Mid-Unit Review completed by Monday, Feb. 8th.  We will most likely cover 5.4 Subtracting Fractions during this week.

Writing:  Students will begin their next writing assignment during this week.  Our next assignment will be an argumentative essay discussing the positive or negative side of cyber communication.  We will work through the writing process and the essay will most likely not be due until the week of February 16th.

Week of February 1st through February 5th

Students were asked to take home their assessment folders to be signed.  The folders contain some of the work we have done in January.  Please have students bring back their folders as soon as possible.  All of the work in the folders can stay at home.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Week of January 23rd through January 28th

There will be an Achievement Assembly on Thursday, January 27th at 11:00 in the Main Gym, parents are welcome!

Math:  Unit 4 Test on Monday, Jan. 25th.  Students should complete the Unit Review over the weekend if they haven't already done so in class.  Students may try the Practice Test in the text to help study for the test.  To wrap up Unit 4 students will complete the Unit Problem in the text.  Our next unit of study will be Unit 5 which is all about Operations with Fractions.

Week of January 17th to January 22nd

Math:  Students are working on 4.7 Practise.  Our class will finish concept 4.5 and the Unit Review during this week.  Students will have an exam on Monday, January 25th.

 Writing:  All students turned in their autobiographies this week, they are full of very interesting information about each student.  Our current focus is on writing to persuade and using the writing process.  We will begin an essay assignment defending a cancelled TV show or Network this week.
